Since its release in May 2016, Overwatch has become one of Blizzard's most successful franchises.
Set sixty years in the future on a fictional Earth, Overwatch takes place thirty years after the resolution of the Omnic Crisis. Before the Omnic Crisis, humanity was experiencing a golden age of prosperity and technological development. Humans developed artificially intelligent robots called Omnics, which were produced worldwide in automated Omnium facilities and used to achieve economic equality, and began to be treated as individuals. The Omnium Crisis began when the Omnics began producing a series of deadly and hostile robots, which turned against humanity. The United Nations quickly formed Overwatch, an international task force to combat the omnic threat and restore order.
